The Hallowell Center Introduces DataLex AD/HD Report to Accurately Measure Attention Deficit Disorder

SUDBURY, Mass., March 16—PRNewswire—The Hallowell Center at 142 North Road has introduced a new, objective biological indicator for the assessment of Attention Deficit/Hyperactive Disorder (AD/HD).

The DataLex(TM) AD/HD Indicator Report(TM) from Lexicor (www.lexicor.com) gives parents, primary care physicians and pediatricians a new tool for the assessment of AD/HD. The report complements the patient history and medical examination, and is combined with a physician's expert evaluation to lead to a more accurate assessment of AD/HD. "The DataLex Report provides a quantitative measurement of AD/HD instead of relying solely on subjective rating scales," said Theresa Cerulli, M.D., CEO of The Hallowell Center. "It is an excellent, adjunct tool for our patients, our physicians and our clinic."

The DataLex AD/HD Indicator Report is a distinct data analysis service that uses patient brain wave data collected from non-invasive, quantitative electroencephalogram (qEEG) technology. The Report is based upon scientific research that shows AD/HD patients have distinct brain activity patterns compared to the general population. The Report can classify those with AD/HD to an accuracy of 90 percent and identify those who do not have AD/HD to an accuracy of 94 percent.

In his new book, Delivered From Distraction (to be published February 2005 by Ballantine Books), Edward M. Hallowell, M.D., founder of The Hallowell Center and Instructor in Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, writes, "About two-thirds of the cases of ADD that are diagnosed in this country are diagnosed not by specialists but by PCP's, including pediatricians, family physicians, internists, and other non-specialists. The qEEG could improve the diagnostic reliability of their necessarily hurried evaluations (and) could drastically reduce the chance for misdiagnosis, especially in the primary care doctor's whirlwind office."

Quantitative EEG data is collected using a sensor-filled cap to measure the electrical patterns of the brain, while the patient sits comfortably in a chair in the physician's office. The procedure takes about an hour to complete. Once collected, The Hallowell Center staff sends the qEEG data to Lexicor for analysis and a DataLex AD/HD Indicator Report is generated.
